You are right that it says a lot about the profitability of renewable energy. I'm happy if anyone is putting money into it....And it brings to mind the biblical quote "The sun shines on the just and the unjust alike". Does this mean they'll stop driving big gas guzzlers and ride around in little black Prius's? Sorry, sometimes I have to laugh or I'll cry.

Hey guys, I am researching on what I should and should not post about on a blog I am creating for my company. We essentially want to focus on comparing and contrasting green products/companies/efforts in our industry. Will some of you friendly bloggers out there kindly be my friend, and maybe let me pick your brain for what you like to read and how you usually go about finding it??

Hello,

I stumbled across your blog today and it was very intriguing. I like what you have going on there and I would like to be a part of it! I'm emailing to see if you take guest bloggers and if I could possibly be one of them?

I have my own blog that I share with a few fellow writers, here's the address: www.eatbreatheblog.com and I also blog for www.occams-knife.com on occasion. Here is a link to one of the posts I have written for the latter: http://www.occams-knife.com/truth-and-pragmatism/

If you are interested in letting me post all I ask is that I can put a link of my own into the article(s).
Please let me know if this is something you would like to do!

Thanks and I hope to hear back from you soon!

I've got an AlertMe system and I am writing some software to link this into a system that monitors the power grid to switch on and off electric car charging depending on the overall demand for electricity and the carbon footprint of the electricity being produced.

In the UK, detailed information about how electricity is produced is available as a public record. This data is updated every five minutes throughout the day. By linking this in with smart metering, consumers can be even more smart with working out when to switch on or off their appliances.

A great example of this is the electric car: if you leave the car plugged in when it is not in use, you can use a smart metering application that is monitoring the power grid to switch on and off charging at the times of the day and night when electricity demand is low and when the carbon footprint for power generation is as low as possible.

I have a website that shows this information. You can find it here: http://www.owningelectriccar.com/national-grid-electric.html

Talking about the environment gets you flamed by both sides - the people who purposefully want to detract and confuse, and those who believe that they are being even more green than you are and then tell you off for not getting all your facts right.

The green movement suffers more than most from 'the circular firing squad' syndrome where so many people detract from what others are doing, because they don't think it is any more green than what they do.

As these people see themselves as on a moral crusade, they actually cause more harm than the people who wish to detract from the green debate in the first place, creating confusion and detracting from the real argument.

I have found one way to get around this problem: write well researched articles and quote sources for all facts that are given in the article. Ensure the sources are all well established scientific or governmental organisations and preferably find several sources for similar threads of information. If somebody wants to say "you're wrong", they then have to back up their argument with a properly thought out debate and provide sources for their information.

Occasionally this happens, and because both people are putting forward a well thought out debate, backed by facts rather than heresay, everybody gains. What you don't get is all the silly little arguments that have no basis in fact.

I am an Electronics Engineer, NEVER switch off at the wall, it does shorten the life of equipment buying new equipment is not very green is it. Being green is not just saving electric it is saving the earth buy not buying new as often.
My 42" TV uses 1W on standby and 116W when in use, nothing like the 45% the government claim? so why would they say it, the economy is poor at the moment so what are they trying to get us to do, they are trying to restart the economy by getting us to spend , so are you going to buy a new TV this year, maybe not, but if your TV dies will you then? Think about it.
Watch for how many adverts on TV will want you to switch off at the wall you will see a lot more of these adds over the next few months.
Almost all electrical equipment has more stress on componants starting from cold than it does when starting from standby, when your last light bulb went pop when was it, was it when you was turning it on by any chance? when your TV or almost anything electrical went wrong last was it when you came to turn it on? dont get me wrong sometimes things do go faulty when on but more often than not it is at switch on. But you will say "it is a fire risk when it is on", maybe it was years ago voltages are much lower in equipment now and fire is very very rare, ok then "what if there is a storm while im out and my mom always said unplug when a storm is about" (lol) ( i have heard this many times) if lightning has traveled 20 miles from sky to your house it will not worry about the last 2 feet.
I am sure we have all worked somewhere where there is a light that has been there for years and years never being replaced it is usually because it is never turned off so no stress, it will go eventually but it will last a very very long time.
I repair lots of equipment i always ask when or how did it go wrong 98% of the time they say i just turned it on!!!!
